Gypsy

This sweet, super timid kitty, was found on the side of a road. She was skinny and is afraid of people, so we assume she was a stray.  She had kittens recently but she will be spayed soon and ready to be adopted.  She’s still a little shy, but loves a pat on the head.  She is now litter box trained and would have to be an indoor cat because she would run away if given the chance and the stray life is no way for such a beautiful kitty to live.

Sassy

Red HeelerSassy is one of 5 siblings that was dumped in a church parking lot and a kind person picked them up and brought them to us. We really don’t know what the parents were, but Sassy has some Red Heeler in her for sure. She is currently 8 months old and weighs 33 pounds. Sassy was adopted with her brother but brought back because she enjoyed chasing their cat a little too much and 2 puppies was too much for them to handle. Sassy is pretty laid back for a young pup and loves belly rubs. She is house trained and knows how to sit; she is very smart!

Sassy just entered the Paws in Prison Program in Calico Rock where she will receive 8 weeks of obedience training.  She is already house trained, so she will be crate trained and learned basic commands. They may even teach her a few tricks!

Patience

When I arrived to pick Patience up, she was tied to a tree with a heavy chain with numerous other dogs running around. I asked the woman how long she had been tied to this tree and the woman casually said, “Oh about one and half years”… That means Patience has been tied to that tree for almost half of her life! In seeing this Pitbull tied to a tree I approached cautiously. Once I got to her however, I realized no caution was needed. This big sweetheart was all smiles and kisses. She was so friendly and happy.  Patience is 4 years old and weighs 60 pounds. She tested positive for the tick disease which we are treating. She does well with other dogs but seems to be fearful of men. Patience deserves a home where she can run free and spread her kisses around. And that smile! It just melts my heart.

Cember

Cember came to the shelter as a stray with her 3 siblings. We do not know anything about their past but we know they were very malnourished and that has stunted their growth. Cember is a Shepherd mix, about a year old but only weighs 30lbs. She was very scared upon arrival but once she realized we weren’t going to harm her, she was very friendly.  Cember is high energy, loves to play and can’t get enough attention! She would be great fun for a home with kids or active people. She is spayed, current on all shots and ready for adoption!

Jewel

Jewel is pretty mellow and keeps to herself. She is an adult cat about 2-3 years old.  She is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly to humans. She does not like other cats, however, which is why she is eager to find her forever home. Jewel also does not like loud noises, so a quiet home would be ideal.  She would be comfortable inside or outside and she is litter box trained.

Ramona

Ramona is an older, laid back, relaxed kitty.  She showed up as a stray and the elderly woman could not keep her. Ramona loved sitting on her lap and getting attention. She now spends most of her time curled up in her bed sleeping. Ramona is very eager to get out of here because she does not like other cats. She is litter box trained, very quiet, and would make a great companion for anyone.

Maria

Pit MixMaria is super sweet, mellow and laid back.  She is a 2 year old, 54 pound Pit Mix. She showed up as a stray and was not claimed.  The people that brought her to us said she was killing their chickens. She was a starving stray, however, and we believe that is why she did it. She was very thin and was probably very hungry. On a positive note, Maria LOVES everyone she meets. She’s good with other dogs and kids too.  When she first arrived here, Maria climbed our 4 foot chain link fence but did not run off. Since she has settled in here, she hasn’t tried to climb out again.  Maria would make a great family pet or companion for anyone!

Lacy

Lacy is a young, rambunctious terrier mix. She has a typical terrier personality- full of mischief and energy. She was brought to us because her owner developed health problems and could not take care of her any longer.  Lacy loves attention and does well with other dogs. She will probably be about 35 pounds full grown.

Little Miss Lacy just entered the Paws in Prison Program in Calico Rock where she will receive 8 weeks of obedience training.  She will be house/crate trained (potty trained), learn various commands and may even learn a few tricks as well! We strongly believe that this program helps pups like Lacy calm down a little and not be bouncing off the walls. Lacy will graduate early in July and be ready to go to her forever home!

Raquel is one sweet puppy.  Her mother was a lab mix and not sure about dad.  She has been outside most of her life and not given much attention but in spite of that has a sweet disposition and loves attention.  She is not house trained but seems very smart.  She would make a great family pet, good with other animals and kids.

Nova

Nova is a young, high energy pup in need of a good home.  Her mother is a Mountain Cur mix and her Dad is an Argentino Mix.  She will probably be around 50-60 pounds full grown. Nova was adopted in January but her owner turned out to be allergic to dogs, so she was brought back in April. The people that brought her back said she was a great dog and she did well with kids. Nova is very smart and knows how to sit. She needs a little work on house training but that should be pretty easy with her (the people who brought her back said she wasn’t house trained but she does not potty in her room here).
