Kory

Paws in PrisonKory is one of 5 puppies that was brought to the shelter after living in really bad conditions.  She is an owner surrender, but the couple was too elderly to care for them.  The mama dog is a Border Collie/Aussie mix and they don’t know who dad is.  Kory is very friendly and craves attention- she loves to be picked up and held. She has the cutest little pink spots on her nose and a touch of brown on her ears. She is a happy little pup that needs a loving home where she can run and play and get a lot of TLC.  She would make a great family pet!  Kory is not house trained, but seems very smart and eager for training.  She gets along well with other dogs and would probably be okay with cats too.

**Kory was enrolled in the Paws in Prison Program for 8 weeks of obedience training. She will be at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock. Petey

Paws in PrisonYellow Lab MixPetey is almost a year old and is eager to explore the world beyond the confines of the shelter (he has been here 7 months). He loves other dogs and going for walks. He also loves to chew on toys and he often offers his toys to the dogs in the yard next to his- he drops his bones where the other dogs can stick their paws through the fence and pull the toy into their yard. It is so funny! Petey has lots of love to give and would make a great addition to any loving home.

Cinder

Brindle Shepherd Mix

Cinder is a 2 year old, 70 pound Shepherd Mix. He was adopted from the Paws in Prison Program in Aug of 2021, but was returned because his owner got a job that involved traveling and couldn’t take him along.  He still remembers some of his commands from the Prison and is housetrained. Cinder is a big cuddle bug -he just wants to be held. He loves both inside and outside and does well with other animals, even cats.

We have learned that Cinder is protective of his owner – he may be a one person only kind of dog or maybe a home where there are not a lot of visitors. He went into foster care with a potential adopter and he did great until he went into public with his person and other people came near. He nipped at a few family members and strangers to keep them away. With his person though, he was all cuddles and kisses. He is a very loving dog, just gets overwhelmed with lots of strangers around.

Gregory

Red Heeler Mix

Gregory is an active 3 year old Hound/Red Heeler Mix.  He weighs 66 pounds. Gregory was adopted from the Paws in Prison Program last June but was returned to the shelter because his owner got a job that involved traveling and couldn’t take him along.  He still remembers some of his commands from the Prison and is housetrained, but he is a hyper and attention seeking guy. He loves both inside and outside and does well with other animals.  Gregory also loves to fetch a ball and be involved in everything!  He would make a great pet for an attentive and active family.

**Gregory went back to the Paws in Prison Program to brush up on his skills. He will be at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock for 8 weeks of training.  They will work on his manners and give him a lot of attention which will help with his hyperactive tendencies. Gregory will graduate Feb 28th. If you would like to provide Gregory with a loving home once he reaches this date, please contact us!

Georgia

Greyhound MixGeorgia is a year and a half old and weighs 70lbs. She is slender and tall with beautiful bold brownish-red patches on her white fur. We think she may have some Greyhound and/or Great Dane in her. Georgia is friendly and loves other dogs but thinks cats are food. She has a lot of energy and loves to play in her water bowl. She does best with another dog to rough-house with but a home with no other dogs that offers constant attention will be just fine.  She likes riding in the car as well, so she would be a great adventure buddy! Georgia does not realize how big she is and could knock younger kids down trying to play, so a home with older children/no children is suggested. Georgia also loves stuffed animals so much that she loves them to death (aka tears them to pieces).

**Georgia was enrolled in the Paws in Prison Program and completed 8 weeks of obedience training.  She was house trained and learn commands like sit, stay and down. She was a little frightened at the prison and this interfered with her training, but she is much more calm now and listens a lot better than she did before going. This demonstrates that Georgia is very trainable if you wanted to further her abilities.
