This adorable little man is Cooper! He is currently in foster-care with the woman that saved him from being eaten alive by fleas. He barely had any blood in his system when she got to him. He is a survivor! Here is what she has to say about him:
Cooper is a happy, funny, and affectionate dog who loves to sit on your lap and follow you around. He also knows a few commands, including “no” and “no bark.”
Please note a few important details about his care:
1. House Training: He is not fully potty trained and sometimes uses puppy pads, but he is making progress. He will go potty outside if let out frequently, but someone needs to go outside with him.
2. Backward Sneeze: He experiences backward sneezing, which is common for small dogs.
3. Other Animals & Food: He gets along well with other dogs and cats, but he can be possessive of his food. To prevent issues, we crate him during feeding times.
4. Children: He has not been around children and, due to his small size, would not do well with younger children.
I had the honor of meeting Cooper the other day and he froze stiff from fear when he was handed to me. He will be timid when you first meet him, but once he knows he is safe with you, he will be in your lap and follow you everywhere! He does not like to be without his human, whoever that may be.
Cooper is 5 years old and full grown at 8.2 lbs.

Jazzy wandered into a store in downtown Mountain View asking for help. He had fleas really bad and had developed flea dermatitis, which has healed now. He was also very skinny. We think he is part Maine Coon due to his size and face shape – he is a BIG BOY! He is also gorgeous with his green eyes and white fur. Jazzy will require an indoor home due to the fact that he is de-clawed. He is a little stand offish at first in new environments but warms up pretty quick. He lets you know if you are petting him and he doesn’t like it or doesn’t want to be petted. He has a big CAT-titude and is such a character! We will test him with other cats once he is comfortable here. We were told he does not like dogs. He is neutered, current on vaccines and litterbox trained. We think he is about 7 years old and weighs 15 lbs.
Hal is the sweetest puppy you will ever meet. He is playful, energetic, and funny. He was picked up on the side of the road and never claimed, so we don’t know about his heritage. He is not afraid of anything and loves everyone. He gets his little nub tailed booty wiggling back and forth when is excited. He does need some work on house training but has only been pottying in his outside area so training should be a breeze. He is very smart and currently learning how to walk on a leash. Hal will do well with other dogs, kids and probably cats too. He would make a great family pet for an active family.
**Tito was enrolled in the Paws in Prison Program for 8 weeks of obedience training. He will be at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock. He will be crate trained, learn manners and he will learn lots of tricks as well! Tito will be looking for a forever home before he graduates in September, so if you are interested in meeting him, please contact us. Read more about him below…
Dexter is one of 5 kittens we rescued after the mama cat died. They haven’t received much care before now, so they are a little hissy, but they are thriving and doing well. It is so cute when he hisses at you then melts into your hand for pets. He just wants to be loved, but is still figuring out how to accept human affection. He is not aggressive in any way, just tries to act tough. He does well with other cats and would probably adapt to dogs as well. He is litter box trained and will be neutered upon adoption.

Tom is an unusual lite gray tabby color. He is SUPER affectionate and gentle. He was rescued from an abusive home and fostered by an animal lover who took great care of him until we had room at the shelter. Tom was rude towards the other cats at first and we thought he was not feline friendly, but we were wrong. He loves other kitties once he knows they won’t attack him. Tom is neutered and litter box trained. He will make a wonderful companion for any kitty lover.
Thunder was an owner surrender due to family issues. He is very playful and has the most animated facial expressions. Initially, he was a family pet but most recently he was in a pen by himself with very little attention. He seems to be more fearful with men, but is warming up to our attention and treats. I sat in the yard with him and it took about 5 minutes of him taking treats before he would let me pet him. Once the trust was developed, he just melted into me, leaning all of his weight on me wanting pets. He might take a little time to get used to you, but will be a loyal companion once y’all get comfortable with each other. We are learning that Thunder is super affectionate, playful and goofy. He tends to chase cats but is good with kids and other dogs. Thunder is about 2 years old and weighs 60 lbs.
