Lida

Akita, Yellow Lab MixLida (Lee-Da) is a super sweet, very mellow dog.  She showed up as a stray and the couple that rescued her was too elderly to handle her.  Lida is very good with other dogs and would do well with kids too.  She is house trained and we are working with her on leash training.  She loves human attention and would make a great family pet.  She seems super smart too. Lida is about 1-2 years old and weighs 55lbs.

Twiggy

Green Eyed CatTwiggy is a really sweet, lovable cat.  She came to us from a family with too many cats and was only outside before we got her, but has adapted very well to being inside the shelter.  She tends to keep to herself but when you start petting her, she melts in your hands and comes out to play.  She is very gentle and calm. Twiggy loves the little cat house to sleep in and to get cheek scratches.  She is litter box trained, spayed and just under a year old. She also has beautiful green-ish eyes!

Bonnie came to us from a family with too many cats.  She was very well taken care of and was only outdoors before we got her.  She is adapting well to being inside our shelter and is litter box trained. Bonnie has her spot on the shelf in the cat cottage and loves other kitties. She is a little shy with people but does allow pets and to be picked up. She is just under a year old and on the petite side. Bonnie is a sweet little thing that will come out of her shell in the right home. Will it be yours?

Margaret

Margaret was abandoned by her owners and had no where to go.  She was very afraid and timid at first but is adapting very well to care and attention from staff.  She tends to hide but if you go to her and pet her, she just melts into your hands. She does well with other cats but has not been around dogs or kids that we know of. Margaret has been both inside and outside and is litter box trained. I think she will so well in a calm, quiet home with a nice lap to curl up on. She is about 6 years old and on the smaller side.

Khaleesi

Husky Mix**Khaleesi was enrolled in the Paws in Prison Program for 8 weeks of obedience training. She will be at the North Central Unit in Calico Rock. She will be crate trained, learn manners and she will learn lots of tricks as well! Khaleesi will be looking for a forever home before she graduates in early April, so if you are interested in meeting her, please contact us. Read more about her below…

This beautiful dog came to us as a stray and was never claimed. Khaleesi (ka-lee-cee) is very energetic but does respond to simple commands.  She craves human attention and only wants to please. We have no idea what her previous life was but she is kind of a mess! She will wine (like a Husky) and jump all over you, but once you pet her and give her affection, she calms down.  She also is very vocal trying to get your attention. We think the poor girl may have been kept in a kennel with no socialization, so she is desperate for attention and affection. Khaleesi needs a home that will offer constant attention. She would make a great dog for someone looking for a constant companion  they can take with them everywhere.  She is almost 2 years old and weighs 60lbs.

Catarina

TorbieCatarina, aka Cat, was VERY shy and hid when she first got here. We treated her for an ear infection and got rid of her ear mites and now she is much more social. She now accepts pets but you have to go to her, she will not come to you. She has that “Do not touch me” look, but that is just a front. She is still very timid but loves getting her cheeks scratched and will roll over and allow belly rubs. That means there is hope! Will you give Catarina a chance at the good life in your home?

Cat is a beautiful Torbie, around 2 years old.

Thor

Red Heeler MixThor came from a bad situation where he and 11 other dogs were not being fed or given any attention. In spite of all that, Thor is friendly and craves affection. He loves back scratches and cuddles! He appears to be a little hard of hearing but he is not deaf.  Since being here he has learned how to walk on a leash and sit for treats. He is very smart and eager to please.  He is also a goofball and we all love him…you will too! Thor is about 3 years old, weighs 55lbs and is house-trained.

Finch

Terrier MixFinch came to us with his brother, Ford.  They were surrendered from a family that had too many dogs they could not take care of.  He is a little on the shy side, but warms up quickly with treats and gentle pets.  His nick-name is “Mouth” because he gets his mouth searching all over us, looking for treats. Finch will not get much bigger than he is now (25 lbs) because he is already 9 months old. He has only been outdoors, but loves laying inside the shelter on his bed, chewing on toys.  Finch is partially house trained and eager to please, so training shouldn’t be difficult.  He would be good with other dogs and older, considerate kids (his searching for treats could overwhelm a small child).

Ford

Big Ears PuppyFord arrived with so much fear that we couldn’t touch him. He was surrendered from a home that had too many animals and just didn’t receive any socialization.  We paired him with another puppy that loves people and he learned from her that people are good and pets are awesome! He is still a little scared but lets us pet him and he improves a little more each day. Ford has only been outdoors but is adapting well to an inside room and getting used to a bed.  He is about 10 months old and almost full grown at 35lbs. He really needs a chance in a patient home and we feel he will really come out of his shell and blossom. Will you give Ford and his big ears a chance?
